the History of Tilehurst group

The group is almost ready to publish its third volume of memories in 2004 (when funds have been raised to cover publishing costs!).

In 1997, the group published its first book - "The Tilehurst We Remember - Personal Reminiscences", ISBN 0953147908 - a collection of memories from six Tilehurst residents.
(Order now from amazon.co.uk!)

Tilehurst was very different then. It was a small, sparsely populated village separated from Reading by open countryside. Today it has outgrown its 'village' description, and has become a very busy suburb of Reading, popular with commuters and their families.

A second book published in 1999 - "More Of The Tilehurst We Remember", ISBN 0953147916 - contains memories of 24 local 'celebrities', including Norcot Road animal lover, Doris Gash MBE, who now lives on Hayling Island.
(Order now from amazon.co.uk!)

This second project was undertaken by the group when they realised that much of Tilehurst's history is undocumented.

Another book is "Tilehurst" by Sue Handscomb.
(Order now from amazon.co.uk!)
